Nick Long

As the head of a visual communication department at Solent University, U.K., I managed both undergraduate and post-graduate students and courses for over two decades. Internationalisation was a major part of my remit and I taught at a number of universities throughout Europe and China. During this period I also worked as an external examiner for foundation, national diploma, higher national diploma and degree courses throughout the UK.
My own visual communication interests lay in the fields of identity, branding, typography, photography and information design. My current research interests are linked to place and critical intervention. I instigated a decade long research project with undergraduate students to record the design processes of some of the world’s leading visual communicators. This resulted in the ‘Sbook’ series, published in six volumes and featuring over 130 primary source interviews.
